College of Agriculture, Kunkuri or कृषि महाविद्यालय कुनकुरी in Hindi’ is a newly formed agriculture college in Jashpur district. Krishi College Kunkuri and Krishi Mahavidyalaya Kunkuri are another names of this college. Full name of the college is College of Agriculture and Research Station, Kunkuri, Jashpur, Chhattisgarh. This is an associate college of an autonomous university, Indira Gandhi Agriculture University or Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

The main aim behind the establishment of this college is the expansion of agricultural education (formal and informal) in rural areas at higher level.

Going 10 years back, the main centres for higher agricultural education were centered at Raipur, Jabalpur, Ambikapur and Kawardha. These are government agriculture college. Agriculture colleges such as college of agriculture, Raigarh and college of agriculture, Rajnandgaon were some known private agricultural colleges at that time.

Competition was high among the students. Only top ranked students were able to get a seat because the total number of seats were very limited. Students from rural area have to face problem in getting admission in agriculture colleges.

1.1 Staff Members

Staff members are new except the Dean. But, they are excellent with their teaching abilities.

Dr. S. B. Gupta is the former professor at department of microbiology, college of agriculture, Raipur.

Senior Professors: Vacant.

Associate Professors: Vacant.

Assistant Professors: Puneshwar Singh Painkra, Department of Horticulture.

Guest Teachers: The college doesn’t have sufficient staff for all subjects as specialist. Classes are being taken by the guest teachers. They are mostly M. Sc. and Ph. D. degree holders.

2.1 Educational Works.

Education is the main focus. This college is a boon for local students. Although, seats are allotted according to PAT rank, but a local student who gets good rank in the entrance exam conducted for admission in B. Sc. Ag., can secure a seat for this college.

2.2 Research Works

Research for finding best variety: Best means- best local genotype which can be evaluated by research work.

Research for finding a disease resistant variety.

Observing local climate: The are is known for its specific climate. The district is divided into two parts 1. Pat region. 2. Plains. Both region experience different climatic conditions. Observation of effect of climate on crop is major work.

Study of local crop pattern: Main crops are rice in Kharif, potato, Cabbage, cauliflower, tomato in winter. Pumpkin, water melon in Zaid.

Note: Ludeg is known as Capital of Tomato.

2.3 Extension Works

Extension work is the transfer of knowledge. There is no extension department (Department of Extension Education). After successful research it is transferred to farmers with the help of KVK (Krishi Vigyan Kendra). Extension work from the college is related with the soil. The college is responsible for agricultural extension work in whole district (Jashpur).

3. Faculties

Two faculties are available:

(1). B. Sc. Agriculture.

(2). Agricultural Engineering (B. Tech.).

4. Degree and Degree Programs

Two degree program are being conducted by the college administration:

(1). B. Sc. Agriculture: This is major faculty for agricultural students. Currently, first batch of first year is running with second semester.

(2). Agriculture Engineering (B. Tech.).

M. Sc. Agriculture, Ph. D., and M. Tech. Agricultural Engineering are unavailable.

4.1 Present Classes

Currently, classes are being taken at the building of government UG/PG college or Audyogik Prashikshan Sansthan situated at Saliyatoli, Kunkuri.

Proposed area for building of the college: The main place selected for college building is Dugdugiya (डुगडुगिया). Construction of the college building is not started.

5. Facilities

5.1 Hostel

Currently, the college is being run under the roof of government UG/PG college (general UG/PG). There is no hostel for students (girls and boys hostel). Students are hiring room to stay and study. University administration has passed construction of hostel buildings also for girls and boys. It is yet to start.

5.2 Classroom

Classroom are general. Occasionally, portable projectors are used. The new college building will be assets with smart projectors and video screen.

5.3 Sports

Cricket Ground: A big cricket ground is available. It is also use for playing other sports like hockey, football, volleyball etc. B. Sc. Agriculture also includes physical class and sport class.

5.4 Other Resources

Library: Dedicated library is unavailable. A library will be established inside main campus.
