PAT or ‘Pre Agriculture/Agricultural Test’ is a written entrance exam conducted for the selection of students to enroll them in B. Sc. Agriculture Degree Program. Students who have just cleared 12th are eligible for this exam.

2.1 PAT for Agricultural Students

Students who have passed 12th from agriculture stream are eligible for this exam with following subjects:

*Crop Production

*Animal Husbandry

*Elements of Agriculture

2.2 PAT for Science Students

Students who have passed 12th from biology stream are eligible for this exam with following subjects:

*Biology.

*Chemistry.

*Physics

2.3 PAT for Mathematics Students

Students who have passed 12th from mathematics stream are eligible for this exam with following subjects:

*Mathematics.

*Biology.

*Physics

3. Procedure of The Exam

Normally, the State Agricultural Universities (SAU) assign VYPAM for conducting this exam. For example- JNAU (Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University) assigns MPVYAPAM for this and, IGKV (Indira Gandhi Agriculture University) assigns CGVYAPAM.  

3.1 Finding Date of Exam

Date of exam is fixed by VYAPAM(S). Generally, it is the month of April or May.

3.2 Finding Notification

Notification is issued by the exam conducting bodies. Notification can be seen on their official site and different newspapers.

3.3 Filling Application Form

Application form can be filled online once notification is released.

4.1 GROUP ‘A’: (PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, BIOLOGY)

PHYSICS

*Unit and dimensions.

*Newton’s laws of motion. Work energy and power.

*Hooke’s law, Young’s modulus, shear and bulk modulus, surface energy and surface tension, kinetic theory of gases, gas laws, kinetic energy and temperature.

*Specific heats at constant volume and constant pressure. mechanical equivalent of heat, isothermal and adiabatic processes.

*Reflection, refraction, total internal reflection, curved mirrors, lenses, mirror and lens formulae.

*Dispersion in prism, absorption and emission spectra.

*Bohr’s model of the atom, hydrogen spectrum, composition of nucleus, atomic masses and isotopes, radioactivity, laws of radio active decay, decay constant, half life and mean life, mass-energy relation,
fission.

*X-ray: Properties and uses.
Elementary ideas of conductor, semi-conductor and insulator, intrinsic and extrinsic semi conductors, p-n junction as a rectifier.

*Coulomb’s law of electrostatic, dielectric constant, electric field and potential due to a point charge, dipole, dipole field, Guass’s law in a simple geometrics.

4.2 GROUP ‘B’: AGRICULTURE

Agriculture

*Introduction: Importance and scope of agriculture in our national economy and development.
Measures to be adopted for increasing the yield of crops.

*Meteorology: Distribution of crop zones depending upon the rainfall, weather recording, rainfall, temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure.

*Soils: Importance of soil, soil texture, soil structure, mineral matter, soil organic matter, soil and organism. Different soil of and their characteristics, causes of
infertility and ways to improve them.

*Tillage: Definition of tillage, tillage operations such as ploughing, harrowing inter-culture etc. Tillage implements- country plough, improved plough, harrows, cultivators, winnower and seed drills.

*Manures and fertilizers: Major and minor plant nutrients, organic manures e.g., fym, compost, green manures, oil cakes, inorganic fertilizers- nitrogenous, phosphatic and potash fertilizers.

*Weeds and weed Control: Defination of weeds, damage caused by weeds, weed control methods mechanical biological and chemical.

*Irrigation and drainage: Need objects of irrigation and drainage, sources of irrigation and drainage.

*Cropping schemes: Importance and principles of crop-rotation, mixed cropping, multi cropping, dry farming.

*Milk products and dairy machines: Preparation of cream, ghee, butter, khoya and dahi, construction of working of cream separator.

*Diseases of cattles: Sings of sick animal, common diseases of cattle, their prevention
and control.

*Poultry farming: Important Poultry breeds and their characteristics, warehousing and feeding of Poultry breeds, hatching of egg by natural and artificial methods, grading
and marketing of eggs, common diseases of poultry, their prevention and control
